G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Live Action Movie

My first thought is, “wow!” My second thought is, “It’s about effing time!” When I first heard this was happening I couldn’t believe it. I immediately searched for it on IMDB and read all I could. Then I got depressed… I see that the director is Stephen Sommers, the guy who brought us such awesome titles as The Mummy series, Van Helsing, and Deep Rising. WTF? The only thing of any merit this guy directed was Catch Me If You Can…wait a second, that’s the 1989 version, damnit! Oh well, there goes another one, down the drain.

We’ll just have to wait and see what comes of this disaster in the making. Oh, and don’t look over the fact that he brought Brendan Fraser with him. Does the studio know who their target audience will be on this one? I would think the major audience would be the kids who played with the toys and watched the cartoons. Most of those “kids” are dudes, dudes in their 20s - early 30s. I’m not excited. Sorry for the abundant negativity and sarcasm, but I’m not too happy about this.

Yeah, I’m a bit worried myself. It’ll probably be closer to the Transformers movie than it will be to the new Batman movies–mostly spectacle with lots of explosions and eye-candy and not much character-driven plot. Regardless, I’m still going to plunk down my hard-earned cash to see it just because it’s G. I. freakin’ Joe. It’s like they already have my money.
